‘SIMON’S CAT’

Endemol, London. Animator 2014-2016, Animation Supervisor 2017

Working on Simon’s Cat has been the most defining job of my career so far. I started working on cleanup on the Flash animated films for Youtube in November 2013 to January 2014, and then returned as an Animator in November for the colour special “Off to the Vet”. I continued to work as an Animator on the black and white Youtube films, working in TVPaint, and then later on incorportating CelAction 2D at the end of 2016, when my role shifted to Animation Supervisor. This involved working with the new CelAction animators as they were introduced to characters I was very familiar with, so I provided checks on the model consistency and also created keyframe animatics in TVPaint to be imported into CelAction as reference. My time working with the Simon’s Cat team has had a huge influence on my sense of characterisation and animation timing, and has really helped me feel validated in the type of animation I most want to create.

In November 2017 I won the Manchester Animation Festival ‘Industry Excellence’ Award for Character Animation for the Youtube film ‘Fish Tank’. This remains my favourite Simon’s Cat film, as I based a lot of the character and movement of the goldfish on my own fish, giving it a special place in my heart.

As Animation Supervisor, November 2016 - November 2017

I have included a couple of the Animatics I produced as Animation Supervisor to demonstrate my input to the CelAction animated Youtube shorts.
